Feast of the Ascension

Matthew 16:13-20

Feast Day Reflection by Sister Nancy Wellmeier

"The Lord showed them in 'many convincing ways' that He was alive"(Acts 1:3). Have you had any experiences that left you convinced that the Lord was present and acting in your life? The accumulation of these everyday 'signs' can be the confirmation of the message of Jesus for us.

Convinced of the infusion of power, we are then ready to 'be my witnesses' ...even to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). The coming of the Reign of God, for which we so ardently long, will come about through our witness. God's justice is not far off (Ps. 46:13).

The Good News of Our Good God's presence is to be proclaimed to all creation (Mk 16: 15). The trees and the stars, the rivers and every element in our lovely planet already believe in this goodness. Do we? How can we be witnesses to the Reign of God, the hope for justice for all creation? What positive ways can I take today to develop an enlightened inner vision of the Sacred--the moments when I know God is with me, the power to witness by my life, the blessedness of all creatures?
